Hi! My name is Andreea and I have an 8 months old lionhead girl named Yuki. (I attached a photo of her) She was spayed this week, she’s still recovering but I really want to get her a friend after she will be fully recoverd. I really love german lops and I would really like to get a male german lop. Would the size differece be a problem in the bonding process? I’ve seen many different sized bonded bunnies, so I hope that this wouldn’t be a problem. In my country there is no such a thing as rabbit rescue shelters so the only options are breeders and petshops. I personaly prefer breeders (good ones) because I want to be sure that I get a healthy bunny. I don’t wanna risk getting a sick one from a petshop because it would put Yuki’s health in danger.
Another problem would be the age. I’ve seen that most people recommend having 2 same  age opposite sex bunnies. If I would be looking for an 8 months old male there is a high chance to find males that were used for breeding before. I don’t know for sure if this would be a problem but I think it would . To prevent that, I can get a younger rabbit. Wich would be the best option in my case? Sorry if my English isn’t 100% correct, it is not my native language.

Size doesn’t matter when bonding, but you do need to be careful that no one is injured while the bonding is going on (which you have to be anyway, even with two of the same sized bunnies!).

When people say same age, they generally mean don’t match a 9 year old bunny with a baby as a 9 year old is likely to be much calmer and sleepier, and the baby would likely end up being bereaved early. An age difference of 6 months is absolutely fine.

Any bunny would need to be neutered, and I don’t think a male that had been used for breeding would necessarily be difficult to bond.

You also need to be prepared that the bunnies might never bond and you might need to keep them separate forever. This isn’t likely, if you take time and introduce them slowly, following the correct bonding steps, but it IS possible – some rabbits just really hate each other.
