My two bunnies dont live in a cage, they have two bedrooms to free roam and are blocked from the rest of the house by a baby gate. they are litter box trained and connected to their litterbox is a wooden hay feeder. Recently Ive been noticing little reddish brown beetles in and around the bunny room. And i have already done a ton of research identifying what type of bug they are. And Im pretty sure they are drugstore beetles, they are currently only living off of my bunny’s hay. They arent in my kitchen or anywhere else. My problem is, no matter how thoroughly I clean that room or my entire house, won’t it be impossible to get rid of them if they always have a food source of hay in the bunnys hay feeder? Its not like I can just stop giving my bunnies hay. I dont have a cage or really anywhere else to put the bunnies right now. Im really worried, please if you have any ideas on how to get rid of these bugs please share with me….

Also my box of hay wasnt infested with these beetles when I got it. And I have already thrown out the entire box just in case and replaced it with a new box, Which I now store in a sealed plastic container for the time being and in a different room I know hay gets nasty when its not allowed to breath but i cannot leave holes in it right now or they might get into that too!

Has anyone else had this problem, it doesnt seem like it should be too rare… but i cant find any information on it related to pet rabbits.

        Thank you for your help

Did some research too, seems like drugstore beetles to me.

Maybe try moving the rabbits to a different room for a while, then doing a deep cleaning. Make sure the chemicals aren’t affecting the bunnies, and then once the conditions get better. Move them back in. Just a suggestion. I hope you’re able to get rid of them.
