        Hello!
First off, I will say that Rupert (aka Poopert) is already 100% back to normal, but this was odd enough that I thought I would ask your opinions as I’m not sure if it really was gas or just a coincidence that him acting better coincided with the gas drops…
(Why do bunny’s worry us so lol)

My previous bunny had lots of gas issues, so I thought I was familiar with the signs, such as pressing the belly into the floor, but he showed discomfort completely differently.

He just kept laying on his side with his back legs pushed straight back… he would move and just keep pushing his back legs out behind him… so NO hunching or pushing his belly to the floor… he went to his litterbox and flopped on his side, pushed out his back legs again and was kind of trying to roll on his back (like a dog rolling on his back on the grass)… he would move when I came over to try to give him belly rubs, he hopped out of his litter box and layed out again.
I went upstairs to get the baby gass drops and when I came back down he had peed outside the litter box, but hadn’t moved from it. (Keep in mind, he was just spayed 3 weeks ago, so we were still working on his litter training – so I’m not sure how much of a red flag peeing outside the litter box is at this moment)

So the only similar signs to gas pain, going from 100% fine to not rather quickly and refusing food… he did pop out some poops when he move away from me trying to give him belly rubs.
About an hour after he got the baby gass drops and had allowed some belly rubs he finally started to nibble at food again and was 100% back to normal 20minutes after that.

** Does anybody else’s bunny act like that with gas (doesn’t hunch, didn’t grind teeth, didn’t try to push his belly into the floor) but just laying on their side, pushing their back feet out over and over.
Thank in advance… I just want to make sure that I’m only looking out for what may have caused the gas and not something different.

I must admit that although BunBun was going thru almost all the standard motions of textbook gas pain, she did skip the grinding of her teeth. She was definitely in so much pain, I was almost in tears several times over but no teeth grinding. She also kept positioning herself as if she was trying super hard to go to the bathroom, to no avail, and I had not had any recollection of reading anywhere about that. I guess, buns can show what they are feeling in their actions and postures in very individualized ways.

That’s what I was thinking Muj mom N Bun… was that it was just his way, but there was no pushing his belly to floor, no trying to go to the bathroom with nothing happening… it was just so strange.

Hope your little girl BunBun is better now too!!!

It’s good to keep in mind the behavioral symptoms of rabbit ailments, but they won’t always display any or all of them to fit the picture perfectly. Wick still eats when he has teeth issues, and Wick actually lounges when he teeth grinds in discomfort.

If in context it seems like gassiness, I would continue to monitor as such and treat as needed, even if there’s no belly pushing.

The leg thing sounds like part of what Batatinha was doing yesterday when we were panicking about gas. Glad your darling is feeling better!

                  Thanks Wick and Coelinhos!
With our last bunny just passing earlier this year, and our new two just recovering from a neuter and a spay a few weeks ago, I’m sure I’m being a helicopter bunny parent lol.

But the one upside with watching them like a hawk all the time is that I already know them well enough to know when they are behaving even slightly out of the norm. Plus its good he felt safe enough already to show his discomfort.

And so far so good – he ate his 1/8 cup of breaksfast pellets this morning like a hungry little monster and his litter was nice and full lol.

Glad your little one is feeling better to Coelinhos!
And Wick – So very true about them all being different. Big hugs to Wick for being a trooper with the long journey of teeth troubles.

It’s more than ok to be a hicopter Bun Mom, especially since they don’t exactly come running up to us to tell us all their little aches, pains, and discomforts…. but be that as it may, when we worry for our Buns, it sends us spinning!

Glad our buns are less gassy! BunBun is back to herself and eating her hay happily… I’m going to try to keep her goodies to a minimum though… just in case

oh man – the way the beg for treats though lol… I’ve been spacing out their pellets so that I can use that as treats.. and I found this other stuff called “Bunny Salad” that is mostly just different hay and dried herbs with the odd piece of dried carrot in it… so I sprinkle a bit of that on their hay every few days to get them more excited for it lol
