  I recently got my bunny and have been trying to understand him. When I am in the playpen with him, it sounds like he would exhale loudly almost like a sneeze. At first I thought maybe there’s something in his nose and it’s bothering him or maybe he’s sick but he hops around and plays just fine. He mostly just does it when I am around. I do not wear any perfume or have strong soap smell on me. What is he trying to hint at? He’s almost 3 months now. I am trying to get him used to me being around and he’ll jump in my lap and likes to roam around.

  Hmm I can’t really picture it. Does he have snot around the nose area?

  no snot around the nose either. I thought maybe it was a grunt? But I never heard a bunny grunt before and wasn’t sure about the sound. He’s not aggressive around me, just curious.

  One of my rabbits has a damaged respiratory tract from an infection she had before I got her and she sneezes a lot. Fully dry sneezes and multiple vets have confirmed she’s fine, but the scarring in her nose irritates her. Especially if she’s eating too fast or after she’s groomed herself.
  
  Her daughter has picked up on this and regularly sneezes to show mild displeasure (you would not believe the number of worried vet trips before we worked this one out!) It’s more like a dry snort with a slight head shake. She’ll do it if something is in her way, if she’s unhappy with today’s treat (God forbid it’s an apple day when she wanted basil!) And she’ll also do it if I don’t greet her as soon as I get home (accompanied by a foot flick when I try to apologise).
  
  There are lots of reasons for weird bunny noises. Maybe it’s behavioural. Maybe it’s an attempt at communicating. Maybe there’s fur in her nose. Maybe she ate too quickly. Maybe there’s an underlying issue.
  
  It’s worth noting what happens before the noise to see if there’s a theme. Also take her to the vet to check her for respiratory issues. If she snores as well it could be a symptom of a breathing issue or scar tissue from an infection.
  
  Do you know anything about her background?
