I am a new bunny owner, and my bunny was in the vet only two days after we got him due to not eating and not pooping. He is back home now and we just have to take him back if he does not poop by tomorrow. Hopefully he does.. we live away from our families and every Saturday we go to my in-laws and stay the night so that we do not have to drive so far for church on Sunday morning and can spend time with them. We are wondering if it is okay to bring the bunny with us or if we should start just driving there Sunday morning for church instead. I’m wondering if it would be too stressful on him to go to a new place so soon?

          Hi,

It sounds like he’s an easily stressed bunny, if he got stasis a couple of days after you got him. Lots of bunnies find travelling very stressful, but some are okay with it. Since he’s recovering from stasis, I definitely wouldn’t take him for a couple of weeks, but perhaps after that you could give it a go and see how stressful he finds it before deciding if it’s something you could do every week.

Bunnies are creatures of habit, and most take a while to settle into a new environment, so moving once a week is likely to be quite stressful for him.

Thank you for your opinion! Since we have returned home from the vet he has started to eat more and be more active. He actually had the gas issue before we got him we just were not aware of the problem but it was so bad that he had to stay overnight at the vet. He still has not pooped so we will have to take him back to the vet today if he has not pooped by the time I get off work. Hopefully my little guy will be OK

Simethicone baby gas drops are a good thing to have on hand for bunnies with gas They are perfectly safe to give and don’t interact with other medicines, or cause any harm if he doesn’t have gas, it just helps to break up gas bubbles in the stomach. Give him 0.5-1ml of the standard infant suspension, and hopefully you will see a difference within an hour.

I have actually given those to him every day. As of this morning he had not pooped but I went home on my lunch break and was expecting to call the vet again because they said if he did not poo by today to call. He had two little poo’s once he started hopping around! I am so happy that my little guy is finally going to feel better! He has been sick since I got him so it’s fun to see him actually have his own little personality!
