My (great?) cousins have their own garden and they gave us some food for Blossom and Thumper (without us asking, they just called us up and said they had something for the buns, yeah they’re really cool peoplepeople), peas and cabbage. I’m trying to do research if peas/pea pods are safe but I’m getting a lot of contradiction, one site will say all peas/pea pods are safe, another saying they’re not and a few being somewhere in between. Are peas/pea pods safe, or is it certain ones or are none safe?

Also off topic but if they are safe would anyone like to see how they react to them? I plan on making a “bunnies first reaction to cabbage/food/other things” mostly to look back on it in the future and I suddenly got curious if anyone would be interested in it.

I’ve given my bun whole dried peas before but I’ve never tried giving fresh peas. Hadn’t had any issues in very small quantities, like 1 pea a day as a treat. Bill will eat them but it isn’t his favorite. He much prefers the dried whole grains (in limited amounts of course).

I’m not sure about peas, but like Lupin says, dried peas are an acceptable bunny treat, although quite high calorie. I would check the list on here. If they’re not on it, then it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I would also be careful about cabbage to start with – it can cause gas in a lot of bunnies, so make sure they start off with a tiny amount.

HRS says a certain variety of pea pods (snow peas?) without peas actually being in them are suitable for a rabbit’s veggie provender, but I’ve never tried it myself, nor offered peas to my two.

Thor enjoys snow pea and snap pea pods as a treat, she goes bonkers for them

When I have them, I only feed 2-3 every few days though since they are quite sugary.
