So I’m really worried right now because mars might have GI stasis. I usually clean his litter box every morning at around 8 am. It’s now 4 pm and no droppings. He was doing fine yesterday. He is still eating his veggies, hay and pellets eagerly but just isn’t pooping or peeing. he was sitting in that hunched up/ loaf position behind the couch for a while and didn’t get up when I call him like he usually does.

I know some cause of GI stasis are lack of exersize and fiber but he is a free roam rabbit 24/7, goes for walks around the block everyday, and always eats Timothy hay about every hour or so. Throughout the day he has been doing flops on his side but not as much as usual and is sitting hunched up a lot which he barely does anymore. He is five months old, not fixed yet, and has never had it before. He still enjoys being pet and is not grinding his teeth.

I would take him to a vet but no vets near me are rabbit savvy and a proper one is pretty far from here. Does he have GI stasis or am I just overreacting?? Sorry for the long post I’m just very very worried.

These could be early signs for gi stasis. He could be having some gas problems, in that case you can lightly massage his stomach (you can find a how to on YouTube). Make sure he is eating, if he stops to eat than get him to the vet immediately. You can even just call the vets and ask for some advice.

Try to make him move around a little, sometimes that starts up the poop machine. A massage like in this video can help too:

As Boo says, if he’s not pooping and he also stops eating, you should contact a vet.

Simethicone baby gas drops can be given on suspicion of gas. They might also act as a lubricant in the intestine. They are sold st Walmart and suchlike.

Hi, he could have injested something, has gas or is in stasis. But of course, if he injested anything he will need fluids and can’t be force fed so a vet would be the only one to tell you if he’s impacted or not.

Is his belly hard? Is his tummy making noises? You can give him baby gas drops and massage his tummy to see if it breaks up any gas bubbles. If you have critical care you can force feed him some. Does he feel cold? He will need to be kept warm. If he doesn’t poop within 2 hours I would go to the vets as he hasn’t already pooped for a long time.

I know it’s sucks having a vet far but you might need to take him to it. Offer him any and all treats and see if he’ll pick at them. You can also get supplies like a fluid bag, line and needles from a vet for a bunny emergency pack Incase they go into stasis and you can’t get them to a vet in time.

So I put him outside in his playpen to move around because he loves doing binkies on the grass and gave him some veggies which he ate. I checked up on him a few minutes ago and he actually did poop but they were really small and deformed. I decided to suck it up and drive to the vet which is about an hour away. As I was getting his carrier I checked his litter box one last time and he had a big pile of normal poop! Does this mean he is fine or do I have to take him to his vet? His tummy is pretty squishy and isn’t hard.

It’s seems like he had some gas and it passed so you don’t need to take him. Looks like he should be fine Sorry it took long to reply. Try and feed him a variety of stuff and see if he’s interested in it.

Thank you all so much for replying!!!! Mars is back to normal and this has also made me go out and buy simethicone and critical care for emergencies. I live in a suburburban\ rural area right outside of Atlanta and we have plenty of vets but none of them are rabbits savy. I’m going to keep looking for rabbit savy vets close to me for emergencies. Mars says thank you for all the help!

No problem!! Glad he’s back to normal! Make sure next time you go to a vet( I know bunny savvy vets are rare) to get a pack of fluids, line and needles and maybe even pain meds like meloxicam just Incase he really does go into stasis so you can stabilize him until you can get him to a vet

Here and house rabbit society have a list I’m pretty sure of rabbit savvy vets all over the country so I hope you can find a reliable one!
