My bunny Jet sometimes runs away when approached, but not in fear – he binkys and looks behind him and sees if you’re still following.

Do bunnies like being chased? He seems like he enjoys it. He isn’t scared of me, he’ll happily approach me for a headrub, groom and for a cuddle.

It’s difficult to say if your not there and can see it. Binkies can be used as a way of confusing a pursuer. Hares do sth of the kind when they jump out of their own track.

Most buns don’t like to be chased, I think that’s safe to say. But I’m guessing young buns could play chase with each other, much like baby bears and minks and many other animals like to wrestle. Like all “childplay” it’s of course a form of preparation for situations in adult life that require physical agility, coordination and speed in adult life. Jumping high up in the air and turning 180 degrees can also be used by wild rabbits and hares to impress members of the opposite sex during courtship. A “Choose me, see how fit I am, our babies will be super-fit as well”-type of thing.

There are a few bunnies who like to be chased, though, or at least have some reason to do it that doesn’t involve fear. I used to know a pair of sisters, one of whom would deliberately annoy the other until she chased her. I assume this was a display of dominance on the part of the rabbit doing the annoying. I guess it might also be a ploy for attention – some rabbits think all attention is good attention!

Are you able to upload a video of this behaviour? It might be possible to tell from his body language whether he’s scared.

I agree, we need more context. As Bam said though, it could be a form of play in young rabbits.

Unfortunately Jet passed away, so I won’t be needing any answer to this now.

Thank you for the lovely comments. Jet lived a short but happy life, and he passed away during surgery (he felt no pain). He’s binkying in bunny heaven <3
