        Hey there!

I’m 12 weeks pregnant and as I was feeding my bunny a carrot, he bit me quite hard as I moved away. The skin broke slightky like a paper cut
But didn’t bleed. My rabbit has also just finished antibiotics for the snuffles, but he’s still sneezing. Is there a possibility that I could catch anything from him like the bacteria from his snuffles or rabies or anything else? I’m really worried only because I’m pregnant and doctors is shut

There are very few cases of rabbit rabies, both as carriers and as full out rabies symptoms, so there is virtually no risk for rabies.

I was not pregnant, but my Wick had an upper respiratory infection (snuffles) for three months and I never caught anything. I don’t think there’s much risk.

I would suggest doing a different antibiotic for your rabbit if the first didn’t work. Antibiotics treat a certain class or classes of bacteria, so the one you received may not have been the best for your rabbit’s particular URI.

Hey there! Were you bitten when wick had the URI?

No, but bites transfer bacteria through saliva, and I’ve kissed licking Wick many times, and interacted with his snotty face quite often as well, so definite transference of saliva…

I dont like to be the worry wart of the group- but I was advised to keep my pasturella bunny away from anyone who was immune compromised.
If I were you I would go to a doctor as depending on the strain, pasturella aka snuffles is a zoonotic infection as it is an opportunistic pathogen.
Like Wick, I never ever became ill due to my rabbit, and I have never heard of anyone becoming ill through it, but, as you are rightly concerned by, you are pregnant.
Pasteurellosis is relatively uncommon. There are around 600 laboratory confirmed cases reported in humans each year in England and Wales, of which about 70% are due to P. multocida. Most of these cases occur in people over 50 years of age.
So although uncommon it does occour, but is easily cleared with broad-spec antibiotics

I think you are fine, but as Dface suggest, maybe you might want to ring your Dr. even for just peace of mind.

Pasteurella is contracted via secretions so you wouldn’t need to be bitten to get infected, if that were to be the case. But like I said, I wouldn’t be very worried.

I got bit by my bun bad enough to go to the hospital a couple years ago and when the nurse found out it was a domestic rabbit, she said “Oh you don’t need to worry about getting shots or anything.”

I remember reading an article about rabbit diseases and how they affect humans – the gist of it is that there are virtually no diseases in domestic rabbits that will affect humans, unless the person is severely immunocompromised – citing examples like a person undergoing chemotherapy etc.

I think you’ll be perfectly alright but like the others have said, it doesn’t hurt to ring your doctor if you are concerned

Extremely unlikely, but it doesn’t hurt to ask your doctor if you’re worried.
