        Hi everyone,

I’ve mostly just read posts on this site, but now I’ve got a question. My sweet boy has gotten fleas (we’ve already taken him to the vet and he’s on Revolution for kittens/puppies) and now it’s a matter of cleaning the environment. He’s a free roam so there are a lot of surfaces to cover (couch, bean bag, carpet, bed, litter box, clothes, etc…). We currently have a lightweight Dirt Devil Stick Vacuum (one of the cheap ones that can transform into a handheld). Will this be powerful enough to eliminate the larvae/flees Ted Bunny has left around the apartment? If not, what vacuums do you recommend (if possible nothing over $100)?

Fleas are so annoying , I’ve had a few infestations, and I such a bother!

A vacum isn’t actually going to do the trick by itself, so I doubt you are going to need a new one-cocoons can hold onto the fabrics incredibly well and can’t be removed with a vacum.
First step is to hoover , then boil wash any fabrics or upholstery you can, and then to use flea killer that you can get in the petshop-most are a powder that you rub into the carpet, and on floors and upholstery, leave for a while and then vacum up the excess.
You may have to repeat the process a few times before you get them completely gone
(Your rabbit needs to be kept away from any chemicals you use as they are all toxic )

After you have vacuumed, don’t empty the dirt cup or change the bag inside the house – fleas can escape while you are doing that. Take the vacuum outside, then remove the cup or change the bag, placing the contents into a garbage bag then placing it in your outside garbage bin.

I agree with what the other poster’s have said, I will add this tip though. Anything like stuffed animals or things you cannot wash put in a garbage bag time tightly and leave for 48 hours. Then vacuum off if able. They do have flea sprays that you can use for upholstery but I am unsure if they are bunny safe.

We have had our share of fleas in the past due to dogs. No fun at all. We feel your frustrations.
