  I got a new 9-week old dwarf bunny about 3 days ago. He was really shy the first day and a half but he has recently started to show his playful personality. He likes to run around, jump, do binkies, and sniff up and down my room. When I am lying on my bad he likes to climb up onto my shoulders and nibble and lick my neck and ears. Based on everything I have read about bunnies, he shows all the signs of a happy and content rabbit EXCEPT…
  
  My rabbit will not let my hands go anywhere near him. He hates being picked up and he squirms and kicks, unless I hide his face in my elbow. If I try to pet him he immediately runs away from me. The only way he will even come close to my hands is if I have food. Sometimes, I’ll stick out a finger a few feet from his nose and he will sniff for a second before running away.
  
  So I guess my question is: Does my bunny like me or not? He will climb on top of me and cuddle next to me but he won’t let me pet him for even a second. It is all very confusing for a first-time rabbit owner like me.

  It’s totally normal, and not to worry about.
  
  He has been with you only a few days and likes to ‘explore’ you, but is probably not trusting enough yet to be handled actively by you (petting). With time and patience on your part, he will. It’s good to keep gently persisting with petting and touching of feet and careful safe picking up IN TIME, as this will make it easier and therefore safer for you to trim his nails or do wellness checks or grooming at home.
  
  But for now, it’s super early days, so give him lots of time to adjust to his new environment and to you, and take your cues from him.
  
  Buns are lovely, curious, and intelligent creatures, and it will be amazing seeing your bun’s personality develop as he gets older and your bond grows.
