        Hi everyone!

I am a new rabbit owner and have observed that my rabbit prefers to eat her wood or cardboard toys instead of toss, carry or play with them. For example I gave her a small stick from BinkyBunny’s nibble stick variety pack and she ate it in seconds like it was a piece of hay. The larger sticks she will chew for a while and then eat them once they are smaller. I have gave her toilet paper rolls & peices if brown cardboard and brown paper bags and she would nibble/eat the whole thing if I would let her. So I end up taking them away from her to prevent her from eating to much. Note she is still very good about eating the correct amounts of her other food for her 3 pound weight (1/8 cup pellets, 2+ cups leafy greens, unlimited Timothy hay & water). How much safe wood, paper & cardboard is safe for them to eat in a day? I would like to give her scavenging toys with these components, but I don’t want to feed her too much of it if it’s unhealthy/will interfere with her regular diet.

As long as the wood is rabbit safe, its fine to let her eat it-it helps add fibre to their system and aids digestions. As well as this its great for their teeth!!
Cardboard eating isnt ideal, however, one of my rabbits is notorious for taking a liking to certain types of cardboard and enjoys eating it. I normally try to limit this, but in the end it has never actually caused him any form of discomfort or illness, so I dont worry too much about it anymore.

As long as your bunny isn’t choosing to eat the cardboard over hay it should be fine

My BunBun eats ALL of the items you described…. that is except for Apple wood chew sticks… which she has only a faint interest in, I guess it’s because I specifically buy them for her to chew! What’s the fun in that, rt?!?! Cardboard, paper, wood… all types including the very house we live in! All of these appear quite palatable to her… I do try to limit paper chewing, especially if it has even the least bit of glossy ness to it. I definitely stop her when she decides to gnaw on the doors and walls… but overall, it hasn’t caused her any illness and I’m very happy if she is wearing down her teeth!

Glad to hear her behaviour it’s quite normal! I will keep giving her the variety of bunny safe sticks as needed to keep her teeth healthy and limit the paper/cardboard for a treat once and a while. After investigating the contents corrugated cardboard it sounds like some glue is used to make it. Although it’s reassuring that I haven’t come across any bunnies that have gotten sick from too much if it! As far as the glossy or pieces with print/dyes I’ll likely away from those
