Nachos has always had a rather small dewlap, we know she’s defiantly had 1 litter of kits before we adopted her. About last week I noticed her dewlap seems to have disappeared. She hadn’t lost weight and defiantly isn’t pregnant. Has anyone else experienced this?

To my understanding, the dewlap develops so there’s extra fur for the mother to use for testing purposes. So if she’s not pregnant, the dewlap may have receded since that extra fur is not needed? That is a guess on my part. Wick is male, so I’m not experienced with dewlaps.

Forum leader LittlePuffyTail had a rabbit that lost her dewlap, but as far as I remember, there was weight-loss due to a healthier diet involved. They can absolutely lose their dewlap if they lose weight. Sometimes loose skin persists though, but without the fatty “roll” inside it.

You have an amazing memory, Bam! That was a long time ago. Yes, Olivia had a pretty significant dewlap (was told she had at least 1 litter before I got her). Better diet reduced it and spaying probably had a hand in it too. After a few months, it completely disappeared.
