So my two bunnies, Penelope & Rupert (aka Poopert) were neutered and spayed last Wednesday – so today is day 9.
When can I let them out? I’ve heard 10 days and I’ve heard 14 days….They are going STIR CRAZY being locked up in their separate cages 24/7
Penny is even flipping her litter box all over the place and I’m worried they are going hurt their teeth with all the cage bar rattling they are doing.
** Plus my other worry is I found some of Penny’s Poop strung together with hair, as I haven’t been able to brush her. She’s not a long hair bunny or anything, but still.They have a 8 foot by 10 foot play area – do you think it would be ok to them out in there for a few hours each (they can’t come out together yet as they aren’t bonded – we have been working on pre-bonding)
This photo is their play area… this was the day my husband surprised me with them after the loss of our last bunny… I went out that night and bought a separate cage… It is also a lot taller than this now as they could jump that 2 feet that it was originally LOL

Yes, you can definitely let them out now, just maybe move the shelf in the corner so they don’t get injured if they try and jump up to it.Glad they’ve both recovered well
Thanks S&L – I try to always be “by the book” with vet instructions (I thankfully have a bunny savy vet about half an hour from my house) but they just look so pissed off at me hahaha. Good idea about the the shelf in the corner! I can’t really move it (its attached to the structure) but I can block it off!
And it was touch and go with Penny after her spay – she did not want to eat anything (she could still eat more hay for my liking). Everything I read prepared me for that, but its always different when its YOUR bunny its happening too lol.
Rupert was pretty back to normal the next day – boys have it so much easier lol – he actually JUMPED out of the top of his cage when I opened it to clean his litter the next day. He has never done that before, so I wasn’t expecting it. I was so worried he would have done some damage, but thankfully he was ok.

Thanks Nibbler&:Georgie! I am too – Penny gave me a bit of a scare with the not wanting to eat, but she is back to her food piggie self. I also found that she eating more hay again now that she can come out.
And thanks!! They love the play area! They can come out and roam when we are home to watch them, but once they are bonded this will give them a bigger 24/7 space to live in
