I had a scary call from the vet, saying that the batch of Filavac that Atlas had been given last week had been recalled by the manufacturer. Luckily, she said if there were any issues, they would have appeared by now, and she wasn’t concerned. Having done more research it looks like they weren’t stored correctly during transport.

So, if anyone has a bun going in for vaccinations in the next couple of weeks, I would check that your vet is aware of the recall!

Thank you S&L! I’m relieved to hear Atlas didn’t have any issues. Does your vet think he needs to be re-vaccinated to ensure he’s protected?

She didn’t say, so I assume she’s happy that he’s protected, but I might call to double check… She seemed to think that although their batch had the same batch number, it wasn’t a batch that had actually been affected.

Ok! A recall can be when there’s been any type of tiny breach somewhere in the production -delivery-storage-chain. The medical companies most likely have super-rigourous protocols they follow. I know big food companies have, my brother does work for a big food company. They can’t risk letting anything through that can’t be guaranteed to a 100%

Crikey, that’s scary! ? Really glad Atlas is fine.

Is there some site that covers all bunny vaccines currently in use? Like availability, safety news, etc., or is it by chance that one hears of these things?

Well I only know because the vet called to say that Atlas had been given the bad batch. After that I had a look, and found the same info on the UK government website as there is on that Vet Times one. Presumably the manufacturers contact everyone who has had a recent batch, but not sure how we would find out!

That Vet Times website seems to update with recalls pretty regularly, so maybe that’s somewhere worth keeping an eye on.

I’m glad he seems okay. I had seen someone post a link to this recall today on FB. You beat me to posting about it.

                        Dear Rabbit owners,

The VMD issued on their website on the 12th of July 2018 a recall for FILAVAC K C+V. This recall was issued after FILAVIE informed the VMD about an incident during transportation leading to incorrect storage requirements of a specific shipment of FILAVAC VHD K C+V. This problem being identified BEFORE the affected products were delivered to UK wholesalers. The defective products were sent back to FILAVIE and destroyed.

The affected shipment contained products from batches 060K80412C1A-UK1-2 and 060K80412A1C-UK1-2. The remaining FILAVAC VHD K C+V in stock at FILAVIE (notably from batch number 060K80412C1A-UK-1-2) that were not part of this shipment, have been delivered normally to UK, without incident.

All the FILAVAC VHD K C+V vaccines currently available on the UK market, as all those that have been used previously, meet the quality standards in accordance with the marketing authorization, and can be used with confidence.

We attach great importance to the quality of our products, from production to transportation. We are sincerely sorry for all the inconveniences that may been caused by this incident
We thank our customers for their trust in FILAVAC VHD K C+V that has helped to save many rabbits lives in the UK and will proudly continue to do so.

Yes, it’s been confusing because it was only some of the batch incorrectly stored, the rest with same batch number went out without incident. I think the error was caught before it went on market but protocol meant they had to report it?

Anyway, if the affected batched had been used, most of what Im reading says it wouldn;t have and adverse affects. It might just mean the vaccine was a little less effective. S&L, your vet may get some more reassurance that the rabbits she’s vaccinated are protected.

                                  I agree.

btw, when I posted above, the Filavac post was not public so I didn’t realise it would appear before my comment. So, I was just jumping in on the discussion prior to that.
