Whenever you bring a bunny home, they need to be left alone for a week(of course feed them and clean up after them) but that’s it, they need to adjust to the new house. Then after that week you can start bonding with the bun, you might stress him out too much and cause him to go into stasis and it can be deadly for a baby. I hope your vet can help you out but you need to leave him alone and let him adjust.

Is he breathing very quickly along with the shaking or switching his nose quiclkly? This happened to one of my rabbits when she has GI stasis. Good thing you’re going to the vet.

Is it just the shaking of his hind legs? When rabbits flick their back feet they’re showing disapproval of something. Maybe he isn’t comfortable with you touching him yet?

Based on the video, the vibration is as intense as if he was humping the air. Which is quite bizarre. I don’t think that’s what’s happening, but for those who can’t view the video, that’s a description.

Does he do it only after standing on his hind legs? Based on his reaction from it afterwards, it does not seem like it’s something he’s controlling. He seems confused and turns around to identify something behind him. Perhaps it’s a muscle spasm from weakness of using his back legs. Perhaps it’s a spasm caused by being overly stimulated.

It’s good that you’re going to a vet because this seems like something you’ll need a professional, rabbit-savvy opinion on. Sending you good vibes and keep us updated!

But also maybe air humping? I have just never read anything about it and Wick was not a humpy rabbit. But you mention it occurs after strokig him, so unsure.

I apologize, I hadn’t seen the video link before. I agree that it doesn’t look normal. Like Wick said, it could be a spasm. Tell us what the vet says!

First of all – he is VERY Cute – and he’s coming up to you to check you out, so I don’t think its anything to do with you being near him – but seems to happen after he comes down from being up on his hind legs.
I’ve never seen any of my rabbits do it.

This looks like excitement and humping. I have had a bunny that would get very excited too (and he was neutered) and he would do a little bit of this (not as much as your guy), but I bet if you put a blanket down or a stuffed animal, he will hump that instead. He doesn’t look like a baby, so did you get him from someone else or a rescue? They may able to tell you too.

He seems very social (you might find a little too social. LOL) so I don’t think you need to wait a week to interact. I do agree though that for a nervous or shy bunny, waiting a few days or a week to allow the bunny to settle in may help — but your guy seems to really need and want that interaction to feel more secure. Each bunny is different.
