We have been using all natural banana chips for treats. The only other ingredient is coconut oil which I assume is used to keep the chips from browning during drying.

He loves them but I’m worried about the oil. I haven’t found anything saying it was bad for rabbits other than it is high in fats. He’s on a balanced diet so if there only treats I’m not worried about him becoming overweight from them. I just want to hear from other owners who have experience with oil to make sure it is safe.

        Bunny info:

Breed: Holland Lop (maybe mixed with other)

        Weight: ~5 pounds

Other Issues: Excessive shedding year round but vet believes it is not caused from any health issues just an individual high rate.

          Hi there, welcome

I would avoid them… I don’t think it’s toxic necessarily, but in general you should avoid high fat and high starch/sugar content foods. Since banana is already a very sugary treat, the added fat might be enough to throw his gut out of whack.

Not sure where you live, but if you can find freeze-dried bananas (as opposed to the regular dried versions), those don’t have oil or anything added to them and make wonderful bunny treats (and so do the similarly freeze dried strawberries and raspberries)

. They sell them at Trader Joes… I bet you could find them online somewhere if you don’t have TJ’s in your area.

My guys love banana chips! I was glad when I found some that had coconut oil rather then the usual palm oil. But I agree, it’s got to be a sometimes-treat. Some have added sugar or use honey to sweeten.

Mine haven’t had them in a while, they’ve been out of stock.

              Thank you.

We got ours from Amazon the company sells sugar-free dried apples, apricots, and banana chips.

They taste awful to the human tongue so our 2 pound bag will probably last us a year or two.
