Recently my rabbit has been tearing up the puppy pee pads in the bottom of her cage and shoving it in the corner of the cage in shreds. When she’s done with that, she dumps her paper litter and shoves that in the corner, and curls up to lay in front of the AC. She used to just sit in her litter box in front of the AC, now she makes a proper nest. She has also been a bit more moody, less likely to come up to me to snuggle and more skittish. Is this nesting and skittishness related to her growing up? She’s 4 months old and I need to get her spayed whenever the best time to do so is.
(She also ate a bit of the plastic pee pad,it was only a bit. Will she be ok?)

Have you taken her to a vet for a professional answer? We can’t look at her and say she is old enough but a rabbit savvy vet can tell you. Her hormones are probably coming in and that is why she is destructive

Some vets may spay a rabbit as early as 4 months of age, but others prefer to wait awhile, until around 6 months old or so. Do you have a good, rabbit savvy vet already? You would have to ask what his or her policy is regarding the age to spay.

The bit of plastic pee pad she ate probably won’t harm her. I don’t use pads, but don’t they have some sort of absorbent gel in them? If she just ate around the edge, that wouldn’t have any of the gel in it. In any case, make sure she eats plenty of hay and drinks plenty of water, and that she is pooping normally.

My vet advised me that females should be spayed at 6 months so I would do it as soon as she turns 6 months!

It is up to the vet – mine said a minimum of 6 months old. She just got done on Wednesday at 7 months old.
