This post was submitted on July 8, when we had a tech glitch that reverted the forums back a few days.

Content: Hello I am new this is my first time posting, I am turning to the internet because I feel I have exhausted ally research and need some awnsers! My rabbits name is Bella, she is about 2 year old. I got her from a rabbit rescue and I have had her for about 4 months now. When she first came home she did great with her litter box and started to warm up to me. I heard her sneeze after the first month and took her to the vet not really knowing what was going on and she was fine lungs clear and no runny nose. After that about a month and a half passed by and she had been itvjing her ears pretty frequently, again my first bunny not sure what a normal range is I guess. I inspected her ears and fur came sluffing off along with dry skin. It looked to be mites so back to the vet we went they didn’t see anything but still treated her with revolution. After another month passed she was still itvjing and began to pee put of her box everyday for about 2 weeks straight. I know bunny sometimes go through periods but thought nothing of it. So as the accidents began to continue I was brushing her and noticed a patch of fur missing and the skin was dark. So once again back to her regular vet we went and he looked at her ears to be safe he gave me a 3 month supply of revolution, he also said that she may of just plucked the fur of her self from being itchy from allergies, the area then got a bit bigger but the fur was growing back in. About another 2 weeks had passed by and I was getting her and felt a hard scaly thing on her knevk and the poor bun had a scab about the size of a quarter and another small nick on her head. Also her accidents had not stopped only a few days there would be a break sometimes. So now we have an appointmentonday morning for a urinalysis and the scabs. Also as far as allergies go I have removed all harsh cleaners, detergents, air sprays, prefume, really anything. I also do vape only outside and always wash my hands before toughing her and keep the my vape in my room. Any advice or anything would really help up lots thank you?

I wonder if your rabbit actually has ringworm, not mites. Revolution has slight anti-ringworm properties (according to a light Google-search), so it makes sense that it may reduce the spread when you’re using it, but once you stop, the ringworm was never fully eradicated, so it comes up again.

          Has your vet considered ringworm?

          Medications to treat ringworm include:

General soap to clean the area prior to applying topical medications – chlorhexidine (“Nolvasan”)

Topical cream – silver sulfadiazine (“Silvadine”)
Topical liquid (like eye drops, but for skin) – clotrimazole

          Oral medication – itraconazole

          — Also, does your rabbit have black fur in the area of dark skin? Black fur growing in can look like darkened skin. If that’s the case, this also aligns with ringworm, because the fur grows back in areas where the fungal infection has left.
