I have a rabbit Salt and he doesn’t like people a ton. And really what that means is he doesn’t like to be pet all that much, but he’s still a super sweet and caring bunny (although he is certainly a boy). This morning he was thumping in his cage while I was trying to sleep and I just couldn’t figure out why, as far as I could tell there wasn’t any noises or shadows that I could find so I assumed he wanted to be let out so he could streetcar and explore.
He is in an unfamiliar place because I let him roam downstairs instead of upstairs where he usually does, but right now he’s grunting and thumping! He hadn’t done this before when he was let out the first time upstairs! He keeps coming over to me, facing his back to me, and then thumping. And now he’s grooming himself. I can’t tell if he’s mad and doesn’t like this space, or if something else is going on. He won’t take treats from me either right now. Does anyone know why he’s doing this? It’s really quiet in here except for some white noise. Is he trying to get my attention?
        Thanks so much in advance

He’s probably scared of something you can’t hear. On a couple of occasions my bunnies have gone into total panics about something that I can’t hear at all, but it’s clear to me that they’re scared. Bunnies don’t generally thump to show anger at you, it’s a warning to the warren that there’s danger. So even if you can’t see what’s scaring him, try to reassure him.

How old is he and is he neutered?

Thumper would like to disagree with you. I have only seen her thump when she has escaped my attempts to get her in her carrier or she has been left in the carrier for too long.

He isn’t nutered and I think he’s about a year old. Also how do you reccomend that I reassure him without touching him? In most forums I see people talking about snuggling their rabbits or something but I can’t figure out how else I can tell him he’s okay. I tried to give him some food like basil leaves and a treat he likes but he wouldn’t take them! After I put him back in his cage he ate his hay just fine so I don’t think he’s sick.

I also need to say that my boy does Thump to show annoyance / anger at me hahahahha (the girl doesn’t) but oh boy – if he hears me up and he’s not instantly fed … thump thump thump… not putting the food in his bowl fast enough… thump thump thump…. Penny (the girl is out) and he’s not (while they are waiting to be fixed and bonded)… thump thump thump….
He’s out and SHE’s not and she’s not paying attention to him… thump thump… LOL You get the idea haha.
