Inside my rabbits cage I already have bedding within his litter box. Was trying to think of something comfortable that I could put in his abode that wouldnt be dangerous for him since he chews on everything. I tried one of those hay mats that I saw rabbits like to lounge on and placed it under his castle [which he generally resides and sleeps in] but he spent all night tearing it to shreds until I removed it [ apparently he didn’t like it there. ]

His cage is somewhat of a massive dog-kennel and I keep it open pretty much all the time so he comes and goes as he pleases, I’m just trying to think of a way to make his sleepy area [the little wooden castle] a bit more comfortable for him. But perhaps he’s already comfortable with the bare floor, who knows.

Thanks, this is my first post here so I hope im asking this in the right place..

Welcome, yep, you’re in the right place!

I think him tearing it shreds means that he loved it to pieces! My buns destroy things they love lol. They also love to “redecorate”….

That said, my buns have a fleece area and a bare floor area, and they often do choose to sleep on the bare floor when it’s warm out.

My buns have really liked these newspaper mats that you can make easily at home. It took me about 15 minutes to make one (and cheaper than buying grass mats that they just destroy in minutes): http://www.bunssb.org/buns-newsletter/september-2013/make-mat/

I normally just a fleece blanket to cover the whole floor. It’s cheap, reusable and comfortable

Good to know. this newspaper mat looks pretty neat.

I think he did enjoy it its just the cleanup was insane. His whole cage looked like ww3 went off and I could not deal, lmao. I hope the blanket may be a little less chaotic, I get a feeling he’d do the same thing with the newspaper. But perhaps that’s just his style and what he enjoys.

I was hoping he’d just find it comfy and chill but I think he enjoys tearing things to pieces then chilling in his destruction like a pig in mud. lol

He may just be comfortable on the bare floor. My bunny room is tiled and I’ve put down foam mats in most parts of the room, leaving just a tile or two so Kurotta can rest in those areas when it’s hot. He decided that tiles are the best thing in the world though, so he rests there 90% of the time and would rather have his paws slide in all directions than to rest in an area with more friction.

You could also try putting an old shirt or something. Though if he REALLY likes the floor, he would destroy or try to move that too (speaking from personal experience).

We use a thin, quilted blanket to cover the floor under her pen. Nothing with fuzzy stuffing inside, but quilted. Then, we added a towel and the flannel pillow cover that the shelter gave us for the ride home. We thought the towel would give her a more cushioned spot to sleep, but she never sleeps on it (just right next to it). She mostly sleeps in her “condo”, which is literally just a card board box with a whole in it. Her door is always open since she has free reign of the apartment, but she does not care for the bathroom or kitchen, which are tiled, because the floor is too slippery and she can’t binky or zoomie to her full potential.

My big hutch is for Rain and it is lined with vinyl flooring and then I have a large and a small fleece blanket underneath the castle. She doesn’t care to sleep in the castle but I usually find her laying on top of the large fleece blanket. In my smaller hutch for Meadow, the bottom is plastic so I line the entire thing with a large fleece blanket (because she much better using the litter box than Rain) and then a smaller fleece blanket underneath her castle. Meadow’s favourite is burrowing herself underneath the small fleece blanket in her castle .
