I accidentally used too few wood pellets in the litter trays a few weeks back and as a result, Buttercup ended up with very mucky feet and a slightly stained bottom. It started to clear up but then I’ve been away for a few days and my partner made the same mistake. Again, Buttercup has very dirty feet and a slightly stained bum. Although this will clear up again I’m wondering if some staining is to be expected? She has a fluffy butt so I imagine some urine is going to get on it and because she’s white, it’s going to look obvious. I honestly can’t recall whether there was some staining prior to these two incidents. So, is some inevitable?

I think staining is inevitable, especially with lighter fur and more orange-esque pee. As long as it’s urine on the fur from something accidental and not health related, I think the amount is negligible. You’re very considerate!

If you can get an elevated screen, that would help, but I think with the white fur and fluffy butt combo, it’s hard to avoid it, especially if your rabbit pees and just stays in the same place. Wick tends to pee, then scooch up a bit.

Some staining is going to happen. Fluffy butt and white fur just isn’t a good combination.

Yep, agree with the others that it’s quite inevitable.

Kurotta has a white tail and although his litter box has a grate, sometimes a little pee stays on top of the grate and his tail soaks it up when he sits down in the same spot, after arching his butt to pee.

Luna and Nimbus both have slightly yellow stained feet Luckily Nimbus has somehow managed to keep his fluffy white bum a pristine white

                  Thanks for the reassurance guys!

I think a tray with an elevated grate would really help. If only I could find one. I could try and adjust the one ive got now somehow. I’ll have a think

I think i remember someone making an elevated grate system with a plastic container and a cooling rack or office rack or something….

Yes, BB sells something similar on the store. I’ve been meaning to try it for quite a while now, but I’ve just never gotten around to pre-ordering it.  Panda and Fernando both had very yellowed feet when I first adopted them. It’s a good deal better now (probably since I customarily lay down some hay on top of the litter to help keep them from stomping around in yucky used litter) but there’s still that certain tint to their paws.
