So, in short i have three buns (Oreo, Shadow and Honey (All Female)) who always try to nip another bun (Snowy(Also Female)) and I have to find a way to keep them separate.

We have a big enough garden with a gate separating it in half. We reinforced the gate so the bunnies can’t get through and we have been taking precautions to make sure the three buns don’t go into Snowy’s half.

That being said we ( my family and I ) intend on going to Florida on this coming Tuesday and my grandmother had volunteered to help make sure the buns are being taken care of. But we worry she wont be able to stop the three buns from getting at Snowy as they occasionally can be rather stubborn and try to squeeze past when you open the gate.

We have tried having “visitation periods” when we let them mingle. Oreo is simply out for Snowy and is relentless when she nips at Snowy. Honey is occasionally friendly and occasionally also aggressive. Shadow is odd as she seems friendly to Snowy but in the past Shadow would nip at Snowy and we think Snowy doesn’t trust shadow as she always runs away when Shadows close, even if she doesn’t attack.

But Snowy also has a problem with her feet so she can’t run fast enough from Oreo or Honey if the do decide to attack, which can be heart-breaking to watch. In the past we have found snowy with scabs and scratches on her backside and neck.

What I would like help with is to find a way to make sure the three buns can’t get at Snowy in the two weeks we are gone.

        Thanks for reading

P.S. If you need any more information ill be glad to help.. Thanks again.

Have you ever been to a butterfly enclosure or zoo aviary? I know you’re leaving on vacation soon, so thus probably won’t work this time, but you could set up a double gate system one your trios side (this way it doesn’t have to be reinforced). Basically what happens is you walk through one gate and close it. If any bunnies followed you, you could easily get them out at this time. Then you open the second gate and walk through. I don’t know if this would work for your set up, but maybe it could for the future

            I like CocoaPuff’s idea!

You could use an x-pen to make a buffer around the gate. Most x-pens have a door built in to one of the panels, so you could set up the x-pen around the gate, so you would have to walk through the gate, then close it, then the x-pen.

              Hello CocoaPuff

I really liked your idea and so we have decided to create a makeshift “airlock system” before the trip. It’ll be knee-high, surround the gate on the trios side and have a small gate on the front. This will be a temporary solution and we could look into better methods later on but anyway, thanks again, your answer really helped.

                  Hello DanaNM

Thank you for replying, as all advice is greatly appreciated. The current plan is to create a temporary DIY x-pen, as there may not be enough time before the trip to order one in. But after the trip we may look further into the different types of x-pens. Thank you for telling me that they are called “x-pens” as I would not have known this otherwise.
                  Thanks again,
