My boyfriend and I rescued a 6 month old bun 3 days ago and have been doing our absolute best to follow all the rules to a T. She has her own space where she has plenty of room to hop and stretch out and eat and poop an sleep, and is welcome to roam the apartment when we are home and can keep an eye on her. I know bonding takes a few weeks so I’m not concerned that we’re not best friends yet, but I am worried about how to keep her away from harmful things or get her back into her cage without making her afraid of me. Sometimes I have to herd her back in, which may seem like light chasing to her, or pick her up for a moment when she has to go back. We’ve tried luring her with treats and food but she’s too smart for us. How can I keep her safe and we’ll adapted without making her terrified of me? It’s very important to me that we develop a strong relationship.

The best thing to do to keep her away from harmful things is to fully bunny proof the area. You won’t have to worry then about shoo-ing her away

Hmm, getting her back in the cage can be tricky if she’s too smart to be lured by treats! I have the same problem getting my boy into his carrier for vet trips! You need to try and get her to see her cage as a fun space. Are there plenty of things for her to do in her cage?

She has plenty of toys and food and relaxing/hiding spaces in her cage. She just likes the crevices that the couches and shelves provide so she prefers the obstacle course that our living room provides :/
