        Hello Everyone!

My bunny Archie recently went to the vet to get treated for Gastrointestinal Stasis and has been on medication for 4 days now. He is slowly getting better, he’s pooping a little bit more and eating a small amount of his hay and is drinking water however his stomach is still pretty gurgly when he drinks. Is this normal? He still has 3 days of medication left so I understand he’s probably not feeling 100% just yet. I’ve also been feeding him Oxbow’s Clinical Care (which he LOVES)  but I’m wondering if I should start weening him off of it so he starts to eat more of his hay? And wondering when is a good time to start introducing veggies to his diet again. If anyone has experience with GI Stasis I would greatly appreciate any advice you have for me because I’m a very worrysome bunny Mom. Thank you!

I’m sorry Archie has been unwell. It sounds like he’s on the mend now, slowly but steadily. I’d start tapering out the CC now, but if it doesn’t make him eat more hay, you have to increase the amount of CC again.

It can take two weeks before the tummy is back to normal after a bout of stasis. It’s important to keep a close eye on output and intake. Clean the litterbox often so you can keep track of poop amount, size and consistency.

I’d wait a few days more to reintroduce greens. Do the reintroduction slowly, one veg at a time and only small pieces.

Bam has given great advice. I’ll mention that it would be good to consider why the episode started in the first place. Could it have been stress, fur, a disagreeing diet… Any ideas? This way it hopefully doesn’t happen again!

You’re fortunate to have a rabbit who likes CC! A lot of people struggle to force feed it haha

Oh wow I didn’t know it could take up to two weeks for things to regulate again. Thank you so much, you were a great help!
