Here is the video in case you want to skip reading the post of another bunny who’s breathing is just like my two guys… maybe just slightly faster…
Bunny Breathing
Info about the rabbits – in case it helps:
*** They are Dwarf / Dutch mixes. The boy has more Dwarf and is smaller and the girl has more dutch and is a bit bigger than he is, but still small. = They are about 1.2 and 1.4 kgs. = And have the same parents, but are from different litters. (The rescue we got them from has since told us the owners got the parent bunny’s fixed finally)
** They both saw the vet about a month an a half ago for their first check up and to book their spay and neuter…so that I can finally start bonding them… however Ruperts “Boys” hadn’t dropped yet BUT they both got a full clean bill of health.
Fast forward to the other day, I check out Rupert and his boys have dropped! YAY. So I’m going to be calling to book them in.
But now I’m nervous about the actual surgeries – especially Penny’s spay. LOL
I’ve kind of noticed that they BOTH breath fast!! Not heavy, just fast! As if its their natural breathing rate.. not just after they have been running around …. They are acting EXACTLY the same though, playing, eating, pooping, peeing drinking, binkying, flopping over to nap on their sides.. BEGGING for food lol. No change in personality or energy.
** Here is a Youtube video of another Bunny who’s breathing is about as fast as my two guys (this bunny’s is a Bit faster than when my bunny’s are relaxing though…)
I know its faster than my last rabbit breathed – but she didn’t have any dwarf in her and she was already 4.5years old when I got her and was 8 when she passed…
SOOOoo I don’t know if Young AND Dwarf mix (Smaller) rabbits just breath faster as their normal resting breathing rate?
We have the air conditioning on, so they aren’t over heating – but it IS humid in the house because its been damp. We have a dehumidifier running now.
I think I’m just noticing now as A) I’m paranoid about recently losing a bunny and 2) nervous about the surgery. So I’m just watching them like a Hawk and over analyzing everything.
I’ve spent the last 2 hours reading other posts and looking at videos online for what is considered “normal” breathing for rabbits.
I’ve seen some say that a Rabbits breathing can be twice as fast of humans (up to about 60 breaths per minute) and I’ve seen the odd one say up to 120 breaths per minute – which mine seem to be doing… but if its 60 that its fast hahaha.
Thanks for your thoughts guys!!
