I went to feed my my tonight and he seems very off. Normally at feeding time or even just whenever I walk in to the room he runs over in his cage and put his front paws up like a little dog. When I went in today he didn’t do this and I noticed poops outside of his litterbox in an unusually large number. He’s normally very good with going in his litterbox but today there were a lot downstairs (he has a 2 tier cage, litterbox is upstairs).

He did eat all his food and the fruit and veggies I gave him, so I suppose that’s good. But he’s just sitting in the corner of his cage looking very depressed an uninterested in anything really.

He was fine yesterday and this morning. I’ve been out all day and only noticed this evening.

Should I be worried? Or is he having a bad day?

His poos and pee looked normal

Could he have gotten spooked while you were out I wonder? Is it downstairs that he is sitting? Maybe he hasn’t wanted to go to upper portion of cage? It’s good you’ve been able to see him poop at least!

What was the food you gave tonight? Is there anything else he normally cannot resist?

Yeah he is sitting downstairs! Although after I posted I went back in and he was sitting upstairs in his litterbox and he did some poos which still look normal. Then he went back downstairs and flicked a toy a couple times with his nose then sat in the corner again so that’s a slight improvement.

I gave him his excel pellets which he finished off. Then some leafy greens and a grape and a little piece of broccoli and he ate all of it. He looooves banana so might try that too.

I may be overreacting but anything that is out of the ordinary worries me! He’s normally very spunky and energetic at this time of night

It’s good to be this observant. I’m glad to read he ate some more and threw toys around.

Do you have other pets? Could one have visited him while you were out? The extra pooping about the place is almost like marking his territory.

Yeah my cat also frequents my bedroom where my bunny is. My cats never been an issue in the past but that could be a possibility! I’ll keep an eye on them two. My rabbit was a bit chirpier this morning so I don’t think he’s sick which was my main concern!
I’ll see how he goes today

I would just keep a very close eye for any other changes in the next few days. Change in behavior can often be the first indication of an illness. And you know your bunny best, when in doubt, a vet is the best option.

Just an update. Bruce is much perkier tonight! So that is good news.

However, I have noticed he’s now started peeing outside of his litter box too. Which makes me think it could be that he’s not liking sharing with my Cat all of a sudden?

I’m not sure what’s changed. And it’s a tricky one because my cat owned my room long before my rabbit came in so I don’t want to completely ban him from my room (I could never do that). I might try keeping him out during the day time and letting him sleep with me on my bed at night time, I normally cover Bruce’s cage with a blanket at night time as well.

Any tips will be appreciated! I hope this isn’t a permanent thing otherwise I’m gonna need to get two litter boxes in there

Is Bruce neutered? If not, it could be that he’s becoming a hormonal teenager!
