My 4 year old bun was spayed almost 2 years ago and suddenly she’s nesting???  I came home today to zero hay in the litter box because she’d stolen it all (as well as some stray clothes i’d left on the floor lol) and is building up a nest under my bed, fur pulling and all.  I put some more hay in their box and she’s spent all evening transporting it from the box to her new nest under the bed.

My other bun (also female, also spayed) has never done this before and she seems just as baffled as myself.

She seems fine otherwise?  Eating and using her box, coming out for treats and pets…. so is this cause for concern? Do I just let her do her thing? Why is she doing this when she’s spayed?

Personally I don’t have direct experience with this so hopefully someone else might be able to give more advice.
I have read to watch out for the symptoms of a pseudo/phantom pregnancy in my female rabbit, and it can possibly be a serious issue if she’s having a full on phantom pregnancy. This may not be the case but I’d suggest ringing your vet as soon and possible and explaining her behaviour incase this is what she’s going through.
          Good luck!

Could they have only removed her ovaries when they spayed her? Or perhaps left one behind?

She was spayed before I got her (shelter bun) so I don’t know much about her history in that regard.  I’ll definitely bring it up at our next vet appointment and perhaps they can do some tests to make sure everything was done correctly.

She doesn’t seem to be stressed or aggressive or anything?  She’s just… building a nest. It’s very odd.  But there is still hay in the litterbox today so hopefully she’s done feng shuing and will settle down soon.
