  Has anyone had periods of time where their Buns have decided, “I may have let you get away with all of “THAT” before but it ain’t happening now!”? My BunBun gave me the proudest day when a few months ago she let me trim her nails, on my own, no fuss, fur, drama or fury! Now, I’ve been trying to get a hold of her for weeks trying to get her to let me trim them again! She is beginning to tap on the kitchen floor! I have also noticed that during that same time, she also stopped sitting on my lap as much, and letting me gently lift her two front paws to snuggle quickly, the way she used to. She has shown no upsets or frustrations… she lays next to me and always is happy when I’m petting her.
  
  I thought I honestly hit an all time milestone where I wld never have to worry about having to ask anyone else to help me trim her nails ever again… also would be helpful since there really isn’t anyone else to do so… it’s just me and my 13 year old, and she responds more to me. I don’t really want to stress her out but she needs to allow her nails to be cut… I almost feel like she is testing who runs the show and right now she has found out that it might be her! I would really like to try to put her up on the table but she has jumped down from my arms in fear once from a higher height and I worry she may try to jump from it and get hurt.
  
  I feel like she is making me relive my noobie days… although not that long ago! But geez! I’m pretty sure that many of you all will tell me she senses my insecurity and I need to hold her firm and just let her know who’s boss (at least during grooming and care giving), but please answer anyway… her nails were left unkept when I first got her so her quicks are a bit long and one of her nails already turns out due to her previous owners, so I’m up for as many “ just hold her like you mean it and get them done! as I need.

  I’ve tried a few different techniques.
  
  1. Put some of my buns favorite veggies, maybe even fruit or a treat and while he is eating he will let me do it. I would just pick one paw up and then put a little pressure to make sure I haven’t gotten the quick and then clip. (If I put pressure and he moves his paw then I adjust my clippers)
  
  2. When I 1st got him as a baby, my vet reccomend flipping him upside down in my arms/lap and he may go into a “trance” and stays completely still. Sometime you may need to do a bit of work to calm buns down while trying this method.
  
  I recommend the 1st methid. But the second if there is no other way. You can also take her to the vet and get them clipped there. But I feel that option 1 is the best less stressful way and it will help her make the connection that nail trim is a good thing. Maybe even only give her a special treat when it is time to trim her nails.

  How old is she? If she’s young, many bunnies are less resistant to handling at first and grow a bit more rowdy as they reach puberty. Alternatively, as she becomes even more comfortable she might be more inclined to act afool.
  One of the best techniques to trim bunny nails is known as ‘the bunny burrito.’ Place your bunny on a towel and wrap them tightly, leaving access to the paws needed for trimming. If you need help and have a local vet, there’s no shame in asking your vet to show you the least traumatic way to trim her nails.

  My diva gal is over a year old now. I rescued her when she was about 10 months old and she was not handled well by her other owners. She has adjusted fantastically and is the sweetest gal I cld have ever dreamed of getting. When I got her, her nails were reminiscent of my days working in the cat rooms of the local animal shelter… she let me cut her nails before. I am not sure what is different now. I think I will try the food lure! Food makes her super happy!!!

  Has anyone tried to do them when they know their bunny is sleepy or during their normal afternoon nap time? I’m wondering if maybe I shld also try when she is zonked out a bit. I will see what happens at that point. Then try the food and then the burrito method. It’s just sort of frustrating because she has let me cut her nails and I don’t know what has changed.

  I always try to do it when Kurotta is sleepy and lounging. That’s the only time he will stay still long enough for me to sneak in a few trims.
  
  It really depends on which method your bun is most comfortable with For mine, the bunny burrito doesn’t work and I find it quite hard to do it when he’s eating as he will still move around from time to time.
