My bunny, Mochi has a very bloated belly.. she is eating her hay.. and also ate 1/4 cup of pellets for dinner. She is also drinking plenty of water. I was feeling her belly and it’s squishy, except the left side feels a bit harder. She been flopping for a good majority of the day.. but also doing bunny 500 and roaming around freely. I’m not sure why her belly is so big… could she just be full? She also has fleas which I plan on getting medication for, when I get paid. I don’t think it’s GI stasis, as she is eating and pooping. She is almost 10 weeks old. Does anyone know what this could be?

Does it definitely feel different to normal? If she’s eating and pooping, there’s not much to be concerned about. You could give her some baby gas drops (simethicone) in case she has some gas, but normally you’d see her looking uncomfortable (trying to press belly to ground, figetting, not getting comfy, lying in weird places) if it was gas. But Simethicone is totally safe to give so it won’t do her any harm if she doesn’t have gas.

I agree that simethicone baby gas drops would be a good thing to start with.

Did her belly suddenly become big today or has it been going on for some time?

Because she’s eating and drinking and doing bunny 500s it doesn’t sound very alarming.

That is strange, I agree that she would be much more uncomfortable if it was gas. But maybe she’s just extra good at hiding any weakness? Bunnies try to hide their illnesses until it’s to difficult to hide. See if it’s normal again after some drops.

Does she ever seem uncomfortable when you touch her in that area?

Yes she seems uncomfortable when I touch her in that area. I checked on her this morning and she seemed better. She still layed on her belly with her back legs out, throughout the day.

If she doesn’t want you touching her there, there must be something bothering her. I would definitely get a vet check up then, along with giving her gas drops. Have you given her any yet? Remember, there isn’t any harm in giving those even if the bun doesn’t have issues after all. They are completely safe for human babies, along with bunnies. I think sometimes buns with gas will put their stomachs to the ground so that it puts pressure and makes it feel more comfortable. Is she laying in an uncomfortable or unusual way? Or does she seem relaxed?
