I believe this is the crate I saw in the crafts section at Walmart the other day and I’m just wondering if it’s safe for me to buy for her to chew on and such… I couldn’t tell what type of wood it was at the store but the listing says it’s pine. All I found on google is they can chew pine firewood… is there a difference? Would this hurt them? Thank you

          Hi!
pine usually is very dangerous for bunnies because it has harmful toxins in it that can affect their liver and kidneys. It would need to be kiln dried to take the toxins out before they can chew it. I suggest using cardboard boxes you can buy new ones at Walmart for cheap and make them a cardboard mansion and they will chew and rip it up and they don’t eat it so it’s safe for them. Also, really the only wood safe for them is willow or apple wood sticks so you can find those in treats and that’s a great alternative to the pine crate.

could you provide some sources that explain this? I’m not seeing anything. I’m mostly seeing pine as an OK thing as I’ve dug further
