My rabbit is 4 months old and I’ve noticed he doesn’t have a tail. I’ve seen other Holland lops the same age with tails is it normal?

No, it’s not really normal. I’ve never heard of a rabbit not having a tail, could you put up a picture so we can see what it looks like, If it’s an abnormality or whether it was forced off by someone. I’m not an expert, so you should probably go to your vet as this sounds very strange

It’s not normal for a bun to be born without a tail, but I guess it could happen. A bun can lose its tail though. It can get bit off by another bun, it can get hurt and actually just wither away and fall off due to poor blood circulation. Some buns need their tail amputated due to injury.

We have had a few cases of buns losing their tail here. It doesn’t seem to cause them any trouble. The tail is important for signaling and to confuse predators (the white tail on cottontails and other wild rabbits), but it doesn’t seem to be important for balance like it is in cats.

If there’s any scabs or signs of injury then maybe you should get it checked by your vet. It it’s simply not  there then I’d say it’s ok. I don’t have any experience but it sounds fine. Maybe she just born that way

My Elara doesn’t have a tail. Adopter her that way. No idea if she was born without it or was injured.
