Is it okay to make some type of baked goods out of a baby food mixture as an occasional treat for bunny’s? I have a lot of baby food left over from when my daughter was eating it and I don’t want it to go to complete waste.

I don’t see why not, if it’s only got fruit and or veg in it. Obviously nothing that’s not vegan. I’ve seen apple baby food be recommended for force feeding buns with stasis before

I think you can make bunny ‘cakes’ out of ground pellets, oats and some sort of fruit mash.

I’m not sure about the baked part, but some people do feed bunnies baby food. Most of the time I’ve only heard of people doing this when the bunny is unwell and isn’t eating anything else though, so maybe someone else can chime in on this.

That said, it also depends on what kind of baby food. A lot of store bought ones contain sugar or some kind of artificial sweetener which isn’t good for bunnies. The 100% natural ones should be fine.

Thank you both for your response! The baby food I have is pureed fruits and veggies with no additives. Do you think freezing would work better than baking? I have some molds I can use. But would also like to explore the option of baking some type of homemade healthy treat. It would of course only be given occasionally. I am trying to train my bun to go in his cage on his own and though maybe this would be a great special treat to give.

I think freezing would be fine. The act of baking does much more transformation for ingredients and their components, but I think if you’re simply either heating or freezing something with no additives that can be given to a rabbit plainly, it should still be safe both frozen and baked.

I think the best bet is for you to get the actual ingredient fresh, then do the mashing yourself prior to baking/freezing to ensure and preservatives or anything to do not transform into something potentially harmful in the freezing or baking process.
