        Hi  All,

I am new to BinkyBunny Forums. I have had my rabbit (Stout) for about 6 months. I bought him from a no kill shelter when he was 4 months old. He weighed just over 3lbs then. He is now not even 6lbs and is almost a year old. The shelter considered him an American Sable. Now, his color is sable…but I do not think he is an American because he is too small for what I have read online. Anyone have any ideas?

          Hi!

Do you have a clear body picture of him? I know when I bought my New zealand they said she was a dwarf bunny- she’s 9 pounds at maturity haha.

            Hi BunnyMom26
Ive inserted the photo you had attached. Just click on Insert Image after you upload the file and you photo should then appear in your post.

It’s funny what shelters will label rabbits. He’s actually a chestnut agouti coloured rabbit – like the wild buns. My lop boy is this colour too. I have no idea on breed though, sorry. Chances are he’s a mix of breeds. He might even be a lop cross for all we know!

Awe! That color sounds so much cuter than Sable! Thank you for helping!

Well, if he wasn’t chestnut agouti, I would think he was a chinchilla (breed). His body shape, etc. fits. The chinchilla gene removes yellow and lightens the black in the agouti pattern. It’s considered a co-dominant gene. I imagine a mix could end up with chestnut agouti fur.
