Just curious because my bun just began going through the hormones and she was crazy for a little while and today she’s been a lot calmer and hasn’t pooped on anything.. so will there be some days she’s pretty chill and others she’s doing crazy stuff? (she’s free roam) thanks! (I am looking to get her fixed but she’s only 4 months old as well and I’m not rich so I might need to save for it)

Well the term “hormonal” itself is often used by humans to indicate a certain extent of instability lol. So I would think the same applies to bunnies. There are good days and bad days

I just mean the behavior like the marking territory, circling, wanting to mate, kind of in heat type of thing. Spraying. All the stuff that happens before your rabbit gets fixed. I’m wondering if it’s constant or if it is on and off – like you said humans are.

Unlike dogs and cats, there isn’t really a “heat” season for bunnies. That being said, I do think that it’s on and off. Some buns persistently exhibit hormonal behaviours before getting fixed, some do it occasionally when they’re in the mood, and some don’t do it at all. It can be quite random.

Yepp, I agree. It can be at totally random times, and some bunnies won’t ever exhibit hormonal behaviours, some will exhibit some, and some will be very annoying and do all of it!

One of my male rabbits sprayed before he was neutered but didn’t do anything else. One humped the other rabbit when they accidentally escaped together before he was neutered. My girl didn’t really show any signs except being a bit aggressive occasionally. they all marked constantly after they were neutered and while I was bonding them.

I think it’s going to be a bit up and down until she’s spayed and her hormones have settled. Hopefully it won’t get too bad. I’m lucky that neither of my bunnies have exhibited signs of hormonal behaviour (I think that’s rare tho!)

It can be on and off. My unspayed female got hormonal in March and started digging, honking at her boyfriend and chasing him. That only lasted 2 weeks and she hasn’t done it ever since. It seems that it was just a spring thing.

Some bunnies do have it always though. I had an unspayed female that was hormonal all day every day and would spray. I also had an unspayed female foster bunny that would make nests the whole time I had her (a few weeks).

hmm interesting. Yeah she was pretty bad for a few days was even falling over and tensing up her body as she started panting haha she was spraying lots of things including my pillow and leaving poops all over my bed. Now she seems fine. Idk when it’ll come back though. She’s always digging though, she’s always been a digger. I did hear her honk quietly during those few days and right before that she was super clingy and wouldn’t let me sleep and just kept forcing me to pet her all night. We’ll see when it comes again

I have read that because my bunny is collecting hay and fir in her mouth it is a false pregnancy. She is about 6 months old and has another female with her, however I have change their dry food and she doesn’t seem too happy with it. Could it be that?

Have you changed to an adult formula pellet?
She may be looking for more protein/energy rich good like in true pregnancy.
How certain are you that the other bun is a female?

I personally feed my rabbit greens along with pellets and hay even though she’s only 4 months old and she’s perfectly healthy and loves it. I don’t know if i believe in not feeding your rabbits greens until way later because in the wild, they’d be eating these things. Not pellets. And they also eat greens when they’re babies when their mom is fed anyway.
