So about three days ago I rescued an abandoned cottontail kit, I know it was abandoned because he’s got a twisted back leg. So when I first got him in my care I bottle fed him evaporated milk on the advice of a friend. I fed him this for about a day and a half before I could get kitten milk and heavy cream. He’s doing beautifully, he’s walking and using the bathroom normally snuggling up and staying warm but my concern is when I help him defecate with a wet cotton swab it comes out bright green. I’ve looked this up and it seems abnormal? Can someone help because there isn’t any information on the web about it.

Hi there. I would suggest calling your local wildlife rescue and taking him there ASAP because that seems very abnormal. I would think his GI tract is not working properly. The rescue I would imagine would be able to fix him right up

I don’t know about cotton tails and how to feed them, but tomorrow morning call a rescue, they might even work on the weekends so you could call today. Here is a couple of websites I found
          https://www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/12-excellent-wildlife-rehab-centers-in-the-u-s/

          http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/find-a-wildlife-rehabilitator.html

          https://wildlife-rescue.org

I don’t know where you live (if its in the US or other) but I hope this helps

Calling a wild life rescue is the best choice. BB forums are for domestic rabbits, which are different and not many users have experience with kits here either. Advice could be given, but it may not be the best for a wild cotton tail.

Some users are experienced with cottontail care because of these scenarios, so they may be able to offer advice for the next couple days, but in term of the Kit’s longevity, a rescue would be best. What they will do with a kit of a broken leg, I’m unsure, but talking with them is a good first step.
