        Hi all,

So my bunny Curry got spayed today, she’s obviously feeling very sorry for herself but she has perked up a bit and has eaten a dandelion leaf and drank some of her water, she’s still grunting at me when I go to say hi but that’s normal for her! I’ve got a care sheet and some aftercare nuggets but I would like some advice from other bunny owners. I need to monitor her eating and her digestive habits, she’s had a wee just now.

She’s got a wet tail that I’ve tried drying for her but she’s understandably quite grumpy with me so I’ve put a towel down in her temporary accommodation to help her keep dry and dry off as she sleeps etc. but what advise to you have for me?

I don’t want to fuss with her too much while she recovers obviously, I’m a first time bunny owner and so am still new to all of this. She’s the first pet I’ve had to take for surgery so I’m a little lost.

        Thanks in advance.

That’s great that she ate a little and drank some water. Did the vet give you pain meds for her? If not, give you vet a call and request them! Spaying is a major surgery, so pain meds are very important for recovery.

Keeping her dry, warm, and in a quiet place is important. And making sure she eats and drinks as you said. If she doesn’t eat her normal amount, you’ll need to syringe feed her until her regular appetite returns. You can keep offering her favorite leafy greens to keep her eating.

You’re right to not disturb her too much, and adding soft things to keep her comfy and dry is great (as long as she doesn’t eat them).

Hi, thanks for replying, she’s not been given any pain meds but she has got a follow up appointment in a few days (Wednesday). She’s pooping and peeing normally now and she seems to be eating okay, she’s never had a very big appetite anyway I don’t think but she’s been eating and that’s the important thing. She has also been moved back to her cage as she feels more comfortable there, she’s definitely perked up since friday evening.

The vets did give me those nuggets that can be made into a paste for her so I think I might do that until she gets 100% better, I’ll let you know how she gets on after the vets appointment.

It sounds like she’s doing good. It’s normal – of course – for a bun to be rather out of it after a big surgery like a spay. I agree with Dana that you should’ve been given pain meds for her, but the most important thing is, just as you say, that she eats (and goes potty). I think it’s a good idea to give her the nuggets, nutritious food is very important for the healing process.
