I need to find temporary housing for my bonded rabbits from August 2018-August 2019. I will be out of the country for that year and am having issues finding a bunny babysitter. I don’t want to board them because I’m afraid that they won’t get any time outside of a cage and it’s very expensive.

I have already asked my family and friends who have declined despite my assurance that I will pay for all the costs. They said if it was a “normal” pet like a cat or dog they would do it, but not for rabbits.

I started reaching out to rabbit rescues but the ones who have gotten back to me said they only take in surrendered rabbits. Giving up my rabbits is NOT an option!

Has anyone had a similar situation?

How were you able to find someone to care for your buns when you were gone for so long? I can’t be the only one. August is quickly approaching and I’m getting so nervous!

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know! I will provide all of the supplies (hutch, exercise pen, litter pans, water & food bowls, toys, pet carrier) and if vet care is needed I will pay for the cost. I currently have Amazon deliver rabbit food, hay, treats, and bedding to my house monthly. During the year away I would have the deliveries sent to the their place, so it would be no expense on their part at all.

I’m not sure what part of Florida you are in, but I’m in north central Florida and we have Gainesville Rabbit Rescue. Have you contacted them? I know that they are usually always full…they have a ton of bunnies they care for… but they are very passionate and I think if you explained the situation they would be willing to help. Even if they can’t set you up with one of their fosters, you might ask them to post your information on their Facebook page.
