So my sweet baby Pepper is beginning to show signs of territorial aggression. I know typically this is linked to a hormonal issue and is typically cleared up through spaying. She circles her playpen and immediately attacks our hands. I’ve tried using an “extension hand” just to show her that her behavior will not cause my husband or I to go away. I guess my biggest question would be what are your thoughts on spaying? I’ve heard it can be stressful for them and I want to know if its worth the risk. She is the only rabbit in the household we have two chinchillas as well but they don’t interact.

Thank you for your responses! ?

Spaying is absolutely essential. An unspayed female has a huge chance of developing cancer. It’s not something that is negotiable. The risks of anything going wrong with an experienced vet would be minimal.

I would heavily recommend spaying and feel that if you have a good rabbit savvy vet it is definitely worth the risk

Spaying will more than double the life expectancy of your bunny.

Yeah I’m definitely on board with spaying. I miss my sweet baby girl. She’s fine once she’s held, otherwise she’s ready to box. The change in her behavior was so sudden, nearly overnight. Thank you for the insight!

Yeah, the hormones can come on seemingly overnight. Once she’s spayed, she should calm down but it won’t necessarily be instant. Some bunnies go through a post spay craze which means that she might actually get worse. This is just temporary though while her hormones level out
