So I know in the event of any type of poisoning it’s always best to take your pet to the vet, but it’s 3am…
Earlier maybe around 2am I noticed a giant silverfish(eww) scurrying across the floor in my living room. Naturally I couldn’t sleep with this mutant creature in my house so I hunted it down. Turns out it decided to make a run for it through my baby’s playpen(poor Pepper). In my stupid, half-asleep attempt to end is life I sprayed Raid in Peppers’ playpen without even thinking. When I realized what I did I acted as quickly as possible to get her out of there, but of course it turned into a bit of a game to her and she kept hopping throughout the pen.I’m nervous that she may have gotten a bit on her paws. My husband and I did try to clean her paws as much as we could with a damp paper towel.
I’ve been keeping an eye on her in hopes I didn’t harm her. I feel just awful really.

          Hi Pepperoni

What are the active ingredients of the spray? It may be (hopefully!) a case of a one off exposure not being an issue. But there are some ingredients in insecticide (particularly fipronil) where there is more of a risk.

Is your rabbit a small breed or young rabbit?

            Hi jerseygirl

She’s about 4.5lbs, six months old. She’s a mini rex. Uh as far as ingredients Imiprothrin and Deltamethrin. Goodness knows what else is in here :/

              How is she doing today?

Okay, google tells me they are both pyrethroids. The only pyrethroid that I do know that has some caution around it is permethrin and that’s with more topical applications.
I *think* with the light spray exposure, her being removed quickly and paws washed – that these 2 substances should not have ill effect on her. I’ve ask some other members that I know are more knowlegeable about this to weigh in here.

Is there is helpline number on the can you can also call?

She seems to be doing ok. She’s eating and drinking like normal and giving kisses and being a cuddlebug. Thankfully one of my good friends is a vet tech and has an exotic pet expert on staff. They just said to keep a close eye on her over the next few days and if anything seems out of sorts to bring her in. Thank you for helping me sorry through it. I appreciate it. Will give updates

Is she still ok? I looked up pyrethroids too, and it seems toxic effects require rather a large amount, topically applied. Your bun can’t have got very much on her and you wiped it off as best you could very soon after the event.

Shampoo or soap can be used in cases like these. You don’t need to now, of course, but it can be good to know for other readers of the thread,

Yes she is still doing great! I threw out everything in her pen(including the mat) and we are starting over again. I’m so glad that she pulled through, I have never been so nervous. My husband and I are still keeping a close eye just in case. I really appreciate the info. I don’t know what I would’ve done if she was seriously hurt especially because I would’ve been the one that caused it.

I’m going to agree that the risk to your bunny is pretty low. The concentrations of the active ingredients are very low and LD50 for Imiprothrin and Deltamethrin is much higher. If you washed your bunny’s paws off right away, then it’s unlikely your bunny was exposed to an amount sufficient to make her sick. If I remember correctly, pyrethroids do not absorb readily through the skin like some other insecticides can.

Symptoms develop within minutes to hours after exposure. So if she hasn’t exhibited any symptoms by now, you’re probably in the clear.
