I’m getting my dwarf hotot (Mochi) “fixed” in July but my boyfriend and I are worried that it’ll change her personality in some way. Does getting your rabbit spayed/ neutered change them drastically???

Hello~ I just hope this goes through because I just started using this forum.

I would say that your bunny’s personality won’t change dramatically. Your bun might get calmer but beside that it won’t change that much I think.

I recently got my male bun bun neutered and after that he has been calmer but still runs around and is curious like before. Before he got fixed he only thinked of making baby’s and spraying his urine everywhere. At the same day when he got neutered I got him home. He was slower and pretty hungry but next day he already wanted to run around. Then I had to give him medicine for 2 days. So in the end I would say that my bun buns personality didn’t change dramatically. It did changed somewhat but yeah. Not dramatically. That’s my story.

Like humans every bunnys personality and behavior is different and so for that I can’t really say if your bunnys personality will change dramatically but I do think it might change a little. Im not really sure for female bunnys because so far I’ve only have had male buns. I hope it helps a little.

Overall personality doesn’t change, but hormonal behaviours are reduced, so you should end up with a better behaved, and healthier bun! How old is she? If she’s over one, then she probably has her adult personality already, but if she’s younger then she’ll probably settle down with age anyway. I’ve had four bunnies neutered/spayed, and none of them have had any obvious personality changes from the op. They have all calmed down with age though.

I’m sure you know that spaying is essential for the health of female rabbits, as they have very high rates of uterine cancer when left unspayed, so it’s great that you’ve taken this decision!

After a spay, the most important thing is to make sure the vet gives you painkillers, and to make sure she starts eating again as soon as possible. Let us know if you need any help choosing a good rabbit vet, or any help with aftercare
