        Hi all,
Just curious to see if anyone knows WHY my bunny (neutered male) has started throwing hay around and burying himself in it?

I’m assuming he sees it as a game (loves to throw his bowl around too… Though funnily enough not so keen on playing with his actual toys ?)

He’s a house bun and gets plenty of exercise/play time outside his cage and has an abundance of toys/cardboard boxes. Just wondering if anyone else’s buns do this?

It’s probably just something that he enjoys doing. He is eating plenty of hay, isn’t he? Along with greens and pellets? If a rabbit was just playing with his food and not eating it, I would suspect some kind of dental or mouth issues. But if he is still eating well, it sounds like he is just playing. A lot of bunnies seem uninterested in their toys, or quickly lose interest in them, so that’s not so unusual.

OMG, he’s cute under all that hay ?Many buns don’t care for regular toys. We often hear about bunnies that prefer the box the toys have come in over the actual toys.

As Tobyluv says, if he plays with his food instead of eating, a dental issue could be the culprit. But if he’s eating and pooping like he should, this is probably an activity he likes. I had a bun that liked to pull a big blanket into his cardboard box. And when he was done, he pulled all of the blanked out again, with just as much effort. I never understood why. He seemed to think it was an important task though.

It could also be hay pickiness. Wick throws aside hay he seems unworthy and ends up pretty much what your picture shows as he shoved his head against the ground to find the only perfect piece in the entire pile.
