This morning I was petting a stretched out dasher, giving her kale and I noticed a very quiet grunting sound. Its louder then purring, but barely. What is this sound? I’m thinking it’s a happy sound, but I just want to be sure.

It can be a sign of general relaxation or contentment. If the eyes are relaxed and breathing is stable, it’s most likely that.

If Dasher looks spooked with rapid breathing, then it’s probably fear.

On a side note, Wick will do a quick huff from his nostrils if I pet him a bad way or if I harass him too much.

Julep will grunt when she is eating a favorite treat and every so often when she is getting petted. For her it is certainly happy “I’m feeling good” noises. I would pay attention to body language and see if Dasher is relaxed or tense. Julep will also growl if she is annoyed with me and giving me a warning. It can sound like a grunting noise but it much louder than the happy little grunts.

Ok, so it’s just happy sounds. However, dasher is never calm when eating
. She likes to play with her food, throw it around, Rip it into pieces, it’s quite comical. But thanks guys.
