        Hi,
I don’t know if this is a silly question but how do you tell if a pepper is bell?Since I got my bunnies a year ago I feed them the green pepper out of a mixed bag.The bag does not mention if they are bell or another type. The peppers don’t have a name on.I just don’t get any that say sweet on the packet. No peppers mention that they are bell.

        Thanks,

        Emily,Anna and Elsa ???

If you google bell pepper you’ll see what a bell pepper looks like. It’s shaped like a bell.

That said, leafy greens should make up 75% of your bunnies veg portion, so things like romaine or green or red lettuce, coriander/cilantro, dill, mint, kale, watercress, rocket, spinach etc.

          There’s a helpful list here:

I think they specify bell pepper to distinguish it from hot peppers. Paprika is another name for it. There are actually long paprikas (white or green or red -I’ve never seen yellow or orange) that aren’t bell shaped but still ok for bunnies since they’re not hot.

Bell Peppers are also known as “Sweet Peppers” or “Capsicum” I haven’t seen them called paprika in the states at least as that usually refers to a powdered spice. They’re the most common peppers and some of the largest sold. As suggest above, googling an image of them should help!

Sounds like they’re getting a great mix of things, but I believe Kale (especially the stems rather than the leaves), Broccoli and Cabbage can cause gas so at least in our house they are kept to a minimum.

Broccoli and savoy are members of the cabbage family and these give bunnies painful gas. You can feed them some broccoli leaves occasionally, but I wouldn’t feed broccoli itself. There are many safe food lists on the web. The rest of the diet sounds pretty good

Many bunnies do react strongly to parsley btw, it’s a natural diuretic. Some forum members have bunnies who shouldn’t get more than 1-2 sprigs. When we introduced parsley to Breintje’s diet he started to drink a lot and shot large streams of pee straight across his cage. It was like the fire department had gotten into action… We took him to the vet because we thought he was diabetic, turns out it was just the parsley.
