Finally!  Long story short, we’ve been dealing with a lot of tummy issues with Dawn,a female black otter Netherland Dwarf, aka our ninja stealth bunny.  Specifically, Cecal Dysbiosis.  It has been a long grueling battle, involving a LOT of stains, rug cleaner and bunny booty washing. OY!    (Seriously, it wasn’t pretty.  There was lots of grunting, tooth gnashing, foot stomping and hurt feelings. And that was just ME.)

So after buying far too many supplements, various foods, etc.etc. ad nauseum, the solution was…..more hay. :headdesk:

Basically, she’s a little piggy, who, given the choice of pellets and hay, will eat pellets to her gut bugs detriment.  So she’s on an enforced feeding schedule, with pellets given twice a day, at the same time we eat breakfast and dinner (Cause we’re a family, darn it!), which forces her to go and nom her vast amounts of available high quality Timothy I have all over this tiny house.  (Seriously, I have so much hay in so many places I keep expecting a Big Bad Wolf to knock on the door and inquire about little pigs.)

In less than a week her tummy was back on schedule, and no sign of poopy butt syndrome.  Turns out her little tummy just can’t handle a lot of pellets and damned little in the way of treats. Which leaves me with all this (crunch) dried (munch) papaya (nibble) that I (snarfle) have no idea what to do with….(nom nom nom).

Awn yay!! I have had completely stop pellets as my buns have teeth issues, but I’m so glad your baby is back healthy

Glad you’ve seen a turn around and that is was an easy solution. : ) It’s really great once they develop a real love for hay. I couple of mine were not great hay eaters in the first 1-1.5 years of life. Then it changed.. Now it’s really great to see them enthusiatic when I replenish their hay supply.

              Glad to hear it!

My Elara is not a good hay eater. After Bindi and Sterling, it’s weird to have a bunny where I’m not constantly refilling the hay throughout the day. Might have to cut down her pellets.

                Aw hope she’s a-okay now

I have a black otter ND and we sometimes call him a ninja too! (https://www.instagram.com/p/BhXwWCiAzgE/?taken-by=kurottabun)

His breeder didn’t give him a whole lot of hay because apparently he liked “playing” with it, but since he came to me he’s been quite a good hay eater (and generally a pig in general). He also goes absolutely CRAZY for pellets too and even choked a number of times because he ate too many, too fast. Since then I’ve had to either scatter the pellets, put it in a treat ball, or hand feed him. An enforced pellet schedule is definitely the way to go for these buns lol!

She likes hay, not as much as pellets. The funny thing about her is twice a year or so, she’ll go on a tear and start stuffing her face full of hay and run off to a corner to build a nest. I’ll leave it for a week until her mood passes, then clean it up again. I used to clean it all up immediately, but she’d get SO mad at me for ruining her hard work.

Last night I was laying on the floor (I had to take the parrots cage out for it’s monthly washing, and the damn thing is 5′ tall and solid steel) resting my aching back, when she boopled (It is TOO a word) over, stepped up on my shoulder with her front legs, chinned my face and nose, and then gave my nose a couple of licks. Simple joys.

Yes simply joys. And they can linger in your mind for quite a while. Wonderful things.
