**note: it’s a long weekend in Canada so my vet is closed today, I will be calling tomorrow when they’re open, just wondering what you all think for today**

My rabbit Miley is on baytril right now for a runny nose and sneezing, swab test results came back that there was staph bacteria found and trace amounts of pasteurella. She has tried a few different antibiotics now over 2.5 months. Baytril was the first we started with and it was working- but she lost her appetite and seemed to be going into stasis so we stopped early, none of the other antibiotics (3 other kinds) did anything. Now she’s back on the baytril before trying injectable antibiotics.

Over the past 2 months, her husbun Hubble has showed no signs of infection. I’ve needed to have his eye flushed before since he seems prone to blockages, but his eye goop has generally been clear in the past. Today I noticed white discharge from his eye so I’ll be calling the vet tomorrow to have him looked at too. I know white discharge means infection, I’m just wondering if he caught the same infection from Miley and it manifested differently in him or did he catch something different? Miley has no eye goop but she does have white discharge in her nose.

It’s Miley’s 3rd day of 14 on antibiotics, no/minimal improvements so far. Both are binkying, eating, drinking, and pooping normally. Hopefully we can squash this infection

            (((((Miley and Hubble)))))

It could be the same bacteria, but both staph and Pasteurella are common bacteria. Almost all rabbits are thought to carry Pasteurella and staph is “everywhere”.

Hopefully Hubble will only need antibiotic eye drops. Fucithalmic is effective against staph aureus and bunny safe.

Have you tried Flocillin injections for the stuffy nose? It took Wick three months of trial and error to find that oral Baytril + injected Flocillin successfully attacked the bacteria he had.

I was told it’s injectable penicillin, if the name doesn’t sound familiar. Rabbit having adverse reactions to certain antibiotics is not unusual, similar to humans having allergic reactions or bad reactions to certain medications.

Of the medications Wick has taken, he cannot have Flagyl, which is an antibiotic. It gives him immediate gastric distress.
