This is completely and utterly my fault, I feel so guilty. My english lop is a very independent little guy, doesnt enjoy being picked up, but he didn’t want to go back into his caging area for bed time, so i decided to pick him up. He ended up kicking away from me and as i tried lowering him onto the carpet for safer landing he fell onto the top of the cage then landed onto the floor. His nail ripped off as i found it on the ground. But now im concerned about his leg. He won’t let me take a look at his back leg and i dont want to force it upon him as he had quite a traumatizing event already. I cant tell if he’s hopping odd, but everytime he tried to hop he kind of starts chewing at the bottom of his foot as if it’s bothering him. i’m not too sure if just the pain of the nail ripping off is whats hurting him, or if he happened to break a bone. At this point i’m coming up with worst case scenarios..I’m hours away from a vet, i have work tomorrow and it’s 1:30am so we have to chug through the night and possibly the day tomorrow. But my intention is to bring him as soon as i can.

Has anyone experienced behavior like this with just a broken nail, or something worse? He seems very bothered by it and i’m so worried

A ripped nail would be very painful and it’s likely that’s the reason for his behaviour. However certainly keep a close eye and if broken bones are a concern by all means get him checked out as soon as possible.

Broken leg bones will cause the rabbit to not use the leg, so he would be dragging it after him. I think the loss of his nail is hurting him a bit. I had a bunny in the same situation and she would do the exact same thing. She stopped doing it within a day and turned out completely fine. If your bun does it longer than 1 or 2 days I suggest seeking a vet, maybe a toe is broken or bruised or something.
