Timber is a little over a foot long and weighs about 5 pounds. Timber looks like a cottontail, with the tail stripe and black ear tips. but his left paw and right leg are both white. his fur is about an inch long, longer on the back of his head. (I suspect he has some lionhead in him.) he has long eyelashes and big eyes on a long narrow face. his head and cheeks are flat but look puffy due to all his fur. another unusual thing about him are his back feet. one has three black claws and one white, and the other is vice versa.

        pictures of timber included:

        thanks in advance!!

I’d say he has some Dutch in there.

Yes there is certainly some lionhead in there somewhere As for the rest, his colouring is probably a result of the vienna gene which creates white marks and patches on the coat. (Comes from mating a blue-eyed-white or vienna carrier to any other colour). So he is a vienna marked agouti. But that’s as far as I can get, it’s tough to tell what else is in there besides lionhead.

            He’s terribly cute

@Azerane thank you, I did assume he’s a mix of a cottontail and a white rabbit, but I would like to know for sure. Whatever he is, I always thought his fur was beautiful.

@LBJ10 Maybe? I haven’t seen any other bunnies with his same head shape, so idk.

Head shape varies, especially in mixes. I’m going with part Dutch and part lionhead and maybe something else in there too. The white markings are consistent with Dutch mixes and since his eyes are brown it is unlikely he is Vienna marked. That just leaves Dutch, really. His main coloring is called agouti. It can be found in many different breeds, as well as wild European rabbits (same species a domestic rabbits). It’s not possible for him to be part cottontail though.

I agree, he cannot be part cottontail but he does have the lovely wild agouti colour.

I’m still voting Vienna marked vs dutch though, sorry LBJ lol, but there really is no way to know for sure unless the eyes were blue or bun was DNA tested for colour.

I’m not convinced he’s VM. It’s possible for a VM individual to have dark eyes, but it isn’t common. The only way to know for sure, of course, would require knowing his exact genotype. With the V and Du genes, having only one copy results in similar white markings.

The trouble with Vienna buns is that Vienna marked and unmarked Vienna carriers have the same genotype so a bun doesn’t have to have any white at all to technically be a Vienna bun, the amount of marking varies so greatly. Of course you commonly do see blue eyes in Vienna buns but not always. All that said I’ve read up far less on the Dutch gene than I have on the Vienna gene. Clearly guessing genotype purely based on phenotype is never as easy as it looks.

Gosh, now I really want to know what lies underneath those markings
