Calcifer’s floofy mane has a tendency to collect things during the day. He always has little pieces of paper litter stuck all over his underside and chin and bottom! My hubby said he’s a dustbunny, the way he collects things.

I usually just comb or pick the pieces off. Should I consider switching to a different kind of litter? I like the carefresh, especially cause it’s easy to vacuum up and he tracks out of his boxes.

Picture of the floofiness attached, because why not? ?

You could try wood pellets instead It does get a bit crumbly though, so I can foresee the “crumbs” sticking to the fur too. The best option I can think of is to get a litter box with a grate or DIY one with your current box. That way the litter stays at the bottom and Calcifer won’t be able to get to it.

I thought the wooden litter was bad for bunnies. Something about the smell and toxins accumulating in their livers?

He’s also shedding right now. I think he’s getting his grown up coat!

I believe you’re thinking about pine shaving which are bad for bunnies. Pine pellets that are kiln dried are safe for bunnies to use Also I love your bunny’s name!

                Thank you!!!

We actually think Calcifer might be a girl bunny. The bits were rather small when he came home, so now we are not sure, and he may be a she.

I’m leaning towards keeping the name Calcifer though. Fire demons that steal hearts aren’t necessarily boys ?

You could look at paper pellets instead of the carefresh, the paper pellets have a little more weight to them and might not carry in the mane so easily.

Otherwise I’d definitely recommend the wood pellets. Wood pellet litter is kiln dried which removes harmful phenols from the timber. Shavings that aren’t kiln dried are certainly not recommended. Or shavings in general because of how dusty they can be.
