Hey everyone! I was hoping some of you guys could to help me out with a problem I have with my two bonded rabbits (both spayed) and a recently introduced mini lop (not yet spayed). About a week ago I purchased a gorgeous male mini lop (8 – 9 weeks) and made the mistake of directly introducing my mini lop to my female dwarf (1 year old) in my bedroom. She sniffed him out a little and started to show signs of aggression towards him (started to chase him around my bed – separated them immediately the second I saw it). I then introduced my mini lop to my male Flemish giant (around 2 years) and they almost immediately bonded, my giant was licking my mini lop and he loved it. My mini lop was a little scared at the beginning due to the huge size difference but now they sleep next to each other and play together it’s absolutely adorable to see. Recently I bought another outside play pen to put my mini lop and my Flemish giant in one of the pens and then to have my dwarf in the other pen. I had the pens right up next to each other so my dwarf and mini lop could get familiar with each other’s presence for around a week. At this stage my mini lop was curious about my dwarf and my dwarf would unfortunately nibble at my mini lops head whenever they came close to each other between the pens. After a week went by I decided it was time to slowly introduce my dwarf and mini lop into my bedroom (neutral place) once more along with my Flemish giant being present in the room. It turned out well – my dwarf wasn’t aggressive at all and was licking my mini lop like crazy and they both would relax next to each other. After spending about three hours next to each other in my room, I decided to put my dwarf and mini lop into the play pen and my dwarf rabbit turned back to her aggressiveness. She would chase my poor mini lop around and would try and nip at his bum (I would either clap my hands loudly or lightly tap her on her nose as she doesn’t like that). Then this morning I decided to put my dwarf and mini lop next to each other in a neutral space and my dwarf is now licking my mini lops head and still nipping at his body. I really don’t know what else to do at this stage. I was thinking of separating the outside pens for a little longer as I’m assuming my dwarf rabbit is claiming territory in the backyard (hence her licking my mini lop in my room and then nipping and chasing him in the garden) as it has only been a little over a week. I understand that bonding three rabbits is said to be a challenge but I really think that my dwarf would be more accepting in the future with my mini lop as she’s already beginning to lick him but I just want her to stop nipping and chasing him around. I’m planning on having them all in the same hutch as my mini lop is currently in a separated hutch from my other two buns. If anyone could give me any advice that would be much appreciated!
